Luk 13:32
And he said unto them, Go and say to that fox, Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures to-day and to-morrow, and the third day I am perfected.
2Pe 3:8
But forget not this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
Phi 3:10-11
10 that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection (ANASTASIS), and the fellowship of his sufferings, becoming conformed unto his death; 11 if by any means I may attain unto the resurrection (EXANASTASIS) from the dead.
Phi 3:14
I press on toward the goal unto the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Paul seeks to know the power of his resurrection (anastasis)
Paul also seeks to obtain the resurrection of the dead (EXANASTASIS)
Exanastasis is the out Resurrection
Paul seems to declare that He seeks this out resurrection, And he hasn't got it yet. But it is the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
This isn't a free gift and it is something we seem to have to work for if we desire.
Note: Paul states that he is pressing on for a prize…The word prize is only used in one other instance by Paul.
1Co 9:24-25
24 Know ye not that they that run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? Even so run; that ye may attain. 25 And every man that striveth in the games exerciseth self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
***What seems to be the prize in verse 25?
An incorruptible crown…keep this in mind because we're going to see that in just a little while.
So we looked at resurrection, in particular, the first resurrection. I believe the first resurrection corresponds to the OUT RESURRECTION or EXANASTATIS.
Rev 20:4-6
4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus, and for the word of God, and such as worshipped not the beast, neither his image, and received not the mark upon their forehead and upon their hand; and they lived, and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 The rest of the dead lived not until the thousand years should be finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: over these the second death hath no power; but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
In verse 4 a group is presented that seem to be resurrected and play a part in reigning with Christ for a thousand years.
By the way, what do you think is meant by "a thousand years"? A day…
Day 3 (or 7) is when the body of Christ on the earth is perfected-resurrected.
Seems these people that are included in the first Resurrection play a vital role on day 7 or 3.
Let's look at those who will be included in the first Resurrection:
Vs4 beheaded for the testimony of Jesus, and for the word of God
Vs4 worshipped not the beast, neither his image
Vs4 received not the mark upon their forehead and upon their hand
What might hinder our understanding of this passage so far? Our preconceived notion of when these events take place for instance if we think that the mark of the beast is only during the seven year tribulation…
Vs4 They live and reign with Christ for a thousand years (or for one day). The 3rd or 7th day.
Vs4 They are given thrones which they sit on
Vs4 They are given the ability to judge and pass judgment
Vs6 They shall be priests of God and of Christ
Vs6 Called blessed and holy
Who are these people? Can we guess? And I would assume that this would be a relatively small group. Probably one of two groups….
Rom 8:19-22
19 For the earnest expectation of the creation waiteth for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to vanity, not of its own will, but by reason of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the liberty of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
Overcomers?
Rev 2:1-7 Ephesus
7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. To him that overcometh, to him will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of God.
Vs2 describes the type of work that they did.
They tried, scrutinized, tested and proved men to see if they were really who they said they were.
What did they overcome? Nicolaitans, and they didn't grow weary.
Vs4 I'm assuming they went back to their first love
Rev 2:8-11 Smyrna
11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
Why? Because they are already resurrected in the first Resurrection (or the OUT RESURRECTION). Therefore they don't have to worry about the second death.
What did they overcome?
Vs10 these people were poor and suffered a lot but remained faithful unto death
Notice what they receive at the very end of vs10
A crown.. of life (prize)
Nothing negative is stated about this group
Rev 2:12-17 Pergamum
17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. To him that overcometh, to him will I give of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and upon the stone a new name written, which no one knoweth but he that receiveth it.
Vs13 what type of work did they do? They held fast and we're faithful despite being in the midst of Satan's throne.
Vs14-15 what did they overcome? The teaching of Balaam and the teaching of the Nicolaitans.
Vs16 I'm assuming that they repented of these errors
Rev 2:18-28 Thyatira
26 And he that overcometh, and he that keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give authority over the nations. 27 and he shall rule them with a rod of iron, as the vessels of the potter are broken to shivers; as I also have received of my Father: 28 and I will give him the morning star.
Vs19 what type of works did this group have? Love, faith, ministry, and patience. And there works seem to increase over time
Vs20-23 what did they overcome? Spirit of Jezebel caused them to commit spiritual fornication and spiritual adultery.
Vs26-28 What did the overcomers receive? Authority over the nations whom they shall rule over with a rod of iron…and the morning star
