  1. Friday - Nisan 16 - Preparation Day

  1. Mar 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James (and Clopas wife), and Salome (Zebedee's wife), bought spices, that they might come and anoint him.

  1. These ladies were at the tomb on the Passover (Weds) and went home afterwards because it was just about sundown and the beginning of the High Sabbath (Thurs).

  1. What do they do after the High Sabbath is over? They buy spices so they can come and anoint the body.

  1. What day should this be? Friday

  1. Show calendar…

And here's something to think about. If the High Sabbath was Friday, and of course the Saturday Sabbath remained on Saturday, when would the women have purchased the spices??

  1. If we think this day is Sunday, then the women would have had to not only BUY BUT PREPARE the spices and ointment on Sunday morning before they went to the tomb.

  1. And Jesus said “three days and three nights” He had to be in the heart of the earth. So far it's only been:

  1. Weds nite

  2. Thurs day

  3. Thurs nite

  4. Maybe Weds day?

  1. Now we would be tempted to continue on with Mark 16:2 thinking that it would be the next day, but it's not. Which we will see in a minute.

  1. The story picks up in:

Luk 23:56a

And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments. And on the sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

  1. In this verse, you have the women returning home to prepare the spices and ointment that they just purchased in Mark 16:1, and THEN celebrating the Sabbath.

  1. Without two Sabbaths and a “free” day in the middle to seem to have a  CONTRADICTION. You'd have to have two Sabbaths.

  1. Saturday Sabbath - Nisan 17

  1. Luk 23:56b

And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments. And on the sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

Mat 28:1 Now late on the sabbath day, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

  1. Sunday - Nisan 18 - At the tomb, at the earliest visit to the tomb READ

  1. Joh 20:1-2 MM @ tomb while it is dark

Now on the first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, while it was yet dark, unto the tomb, and seeth the stone taken away from the tomb. 2 She runneth therefore, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved (, and saith unto them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we know not where they have laid him.”

  1. It's still dark and the stone has already been moved. What does this signify? Jesus has arisen.

  1. Did it take an angel from heaven to roll away the stone? Maybe.

  1. How did it get put in front of the tomb originally?

    1. Mat 27:60  and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he (Joseph) rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and departed.

  1. Did it require and angel to move the stone? No

  1. When does Jesus need to arise? On the first day of the week. Sunday.

Lev 23:10-11 10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye are come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring the sheaf of the first-fruits of your harvest unto the priest: 11 and he shall wave the sheaf before Jehovah, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.

By the way, Jesus fulfills this and and according to 1 Cor 15:20-23, is the first fruits who was raised from the dead. The first of many..

1Co 15:20  But now hath Christ been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of them that are asleep.

1Co 15:23  But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; then they that are Christ's, at his coming.

  1. When does Sunday begin? After sunset on Sat evening.

  1. So technically, Jesus could have risen anytime after sunset on Sat nite. Right?

  1. In the same vain, did Jesus need to have the stone removed before being released from the tomb? Unsure

  1. Couldn't He just rise through the cave/tomb walls?

  1. If he did need the stone rolled away, where did he go after he came out of the tomb?

  1. And couldn't he just walk through walls as we discover he does during his 40 days on Earth? And at other times he just disappears?

  1. With that in mind, was the open tomb and the earthquake and the angels simply to show those on Earth that Jesus had conquered death? Possible but not Sure

Therefore, it's likely to me that Christ's resurrection took place in between Saturday sunset (after the watch was set on Saturday night) and Sunday sunrise (when the women visited Christ's tomb). It's possible that He simply walked invisibly away (cf. Lk. 24:31; 36; Jn. 20:19, 26). This further explains why the Roman guards were bribed by the Jewish religious leaders into saying, "His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept" (28:13) since throughout the night that they were stationed at Christ's tomb they witnessed nothing out of the ordinary until daybreak when the earthquake occured and the angel rolled away the stone revealing to them that Christ's body had supernaturally disappeared (Mt. 28:2-6).
