Job 3 Overcomers, Manchild, 144,000

Job 3:1

1 After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.

(His birthday?)

Job 3:2-3

2 And Job answered and said: 3 Let the day perish wherein I was born, And the night which said, There is a man-child conceived.

1. What day is the man child born?

2. Day of the Lord when his overcoming sons are born

3. What do these overcoming, man-child sons (144,000) do?

Judge the world?

1Co 6:2

Or know ye not that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world is judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

Job's "day of darkness is a double entandre for day 7, the "day of the Lord"

Job 3:4-7

4 Let that day be darkness; Let not God from above seek for it, Neither let the light shine upon it. 5 Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it for their own; Let a cloud dwell upon it; Let all that maketh black the day terrify it. 6 As for that night, let thick darkness seize upon it: Let it not rejoice among the days of the year; Let it not come into the number of the months. 7 Lo, let that night be barren; Let no joyful voice come therein.

The day of the Lord is...

Joe 2:1-2a

1 Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain; let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of Jehovah cometh, for it is nigh at hand; 2 a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, as the dawn spread upon the mountains;

Description of the man-child and his job/responsibilities on day 3/7 (Day of the Lord)

Joel 2:2b-11

a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after them, even to the years of many generations. 3 A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and none hath escaped them. 4 The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so do they run. 5 Like the noise of chariots on the tops of the mountains do they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array. 6 At their presence the peoples are in anguish; all faces are waxed pale. 7 They run like mighty men; they climb the wall like men of war; and they march every one on his ways, and they break not their ranks. 8 Neither doth one thrust another; they march every one in his path; and they burst through the weapons, and break not off their course. 9 They leap upon the city; they run upon the wall; they climb up into the houses; they enter in at the windows like a thief. 10 The earth quaketh before them; the heavens tremble; the sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withdraw their shining. 11 And Jehovah uttereth his voice before his army; for his camp is very great; for he is strong that executeth his word; for the day of Jehovah is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?

Further description of the day of the Lord

Amo 5:18

Woe unto you that desire the day of Jehovah! Wherefore would ye have the day of Jehovah? It is darkness, and not light.

What does Jesus seek to do on the day of the Lord?

Eze 34:12

As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered abroad, so will I seek out my sheep; and I will deliver them out of all places whither they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day.

Further references of the Day of the Lord

Isa 60:2-3

2 For, behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the peoples; but Jehovah will arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. 3 And nations shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

The job of the man-child, 144,000, overcomers ministry is also the face leviathan.

Job 3:8

8 Let them curse it that curse the day, Who are ready to rouse up leviathan

What is a leviathan?

sea monster

dragon

large aquatic animal

perhaps the extinct dinosaur, plesiosaurus

1. Job 41:1 Canst thou draw out leviathan with a fishhook? Or press down his tongue with a cord?

2. Isa 27:1 In that day Jehovah with his hard and great and strong sword will punish leviathan the swift serpent, and leviathan the crooked serpent; and he will slay the monster that is in the sea.

3. Psa 74:14 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces; Thou gavest him to be food to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

4. Psa 104:26 There go the ships; There is leviathan, whom thou hast formed to play therein.

5. 1Th 5:2-5

2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 When they are saying, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escape. 4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief: 5 for ye are all sons of light, and sons of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness;

Darkness of the day of the Lord

Job 3:9

9 Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark: Let it look for light, but have none; Neither let it behold the eyelids of the morning:

1. Isa 13:9-11

9 Behold, the day of Jehovah cometh, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger; to make the land a desolation, and to destroy the sinners thereof out of it. 10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light; the sun shall be darkened in its going forth, and the moon shall not cause its light to shine. 11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity: and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.

The "painful" process of being an overcomers/man-child/144,000.

Job 3:10-13

10 Because it shut not up the doors of my mother's womb, Nor hid trouble from mine eyes. 11 Why died I not from the womb? Why did I not give up the ghost when my mother bare me? 12 Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breasts, that I should suck? 13 For now should I have lain down and been quiet; I should have slept; then had I been at rest,

Job 3:14

14 With kings and counsellors of the earth, Who built up waste places for themselves;

The kings and counsellors of the earth built up waste places for themselves.

Waste places can be:

1. cities that wicked kings took

2. Wicked cities of God's people that God made desolate based on their disobedient

###

Isa 58:12-14

12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places; thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in. 13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, and the holy of Jehovah honorable; and shalt honor it, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: 14 then shalt thou delight thyself in Jehovah; and I will make thee to ride upon the high places of the earth; and I will feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken it.

Job 3:15-19

15 Or with princes that had gold, Who filled their houses with silver 16 Or as a hidden untimely birth I had not been, As infants that never saw light. 17 There the wicked cease from troubling; And there the weary are at rest. 18 There the prisoners are at ease together; They hear not the voice of the taskmaster. 19 The small and the great are there: And the servant is free from his master.

Job 3:20-

20 Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, And life unto the bitter in soul; 21 Who long for death, but it cometh not, And dig for it more than for hid treasures; 22 Who rejoice exceedingly, And are glad, when they can find the grave? 23 Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, And whom God hath hedged in? 24 For my sighing cometh before I eat, And my groanings are poured out like water. 25 For the thing which I fear cometh upon me, And that which I am afraid of cometh unto me. 26 I am not at ease, neither am I quie

t, neither have I rest; But trouble cometh.

Luke 13:1-28

 Bible Study 8-4-24

Luk 13:1-5

1 Now there were some present at that very season who told him of the Galilæans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And he answered and said unto them, Think ye that these Galilæans were sinners above all the Galilæans, because they have suffered these things? 3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all in like manner perish. 4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, think ye that they were offenders above all the men that dwell in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

  1. Jdg 3:14-15

14 And the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years. 15 But when the children of Israel cried unto Jehovah, Jehovah raised them up a saviour, Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a man left-handed. And the children of Israel sent tribute by him unto Eglon the king of Moab.

Moab ruled over Israel 18 years.

  1. Jdg 10:8

And they vexed and oppressed the children of Israel that year: eighteen years oppressed they all the children of Israel that were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.

Ammon vexed and oppressed Israel 18 years.

  1. Jdg 20:25-26

25 And Benjamin went forth against them (children of Israel) out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword. 26 Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto Beth-el, and wept, and sat there before Jehovah, and fasted that day until even; and they offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings before Jehovah.

Benjamin, destroy 18000 men of the children of Israel in a civil war.

  1. Jdg 20:43-44

43 They (the children of Israel) inclosed the Benjamites round about, and chased them, and trod them down at their resting-place, as far as over against Gibeah toward the sunrising. 44 And there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men; all these were men of valor.

The children of Israel destroy 18000 men of Benjamin in a civil war.

Luk 13:6-9

6 And he spake this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit thereon, and found none.  7 And he said unto the vinedresser, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why doth it also cumber the ground?  8 And he answering saith unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:  9  and if it bear fruit thenceforth, well; but if not, thou shalt cut it down.

  1. Who is the man?

  2. Who is the vine dresser?

  3. Who is the fig tree?

Luk 13:10-13

10 And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath day. 11 And behold, a woman that had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years; and she was bowed together, and could in no wise lift herself up. 12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her, and said to her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. 13 And he laid his hands upon her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

Which day? Sabbath; this parable is reflective of the state of God's people on day 7, the day of the Lord.

Bowed together - G4794

  1. stoop altogether, that is, be completely overcome by

  2. bow together

Isa 46:1

1 Bel boweth down, Nebo stoopeth; their idols are upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: the things that ye carried about are made a load, a burden to the weary beast.

Bel and Nebo are two god's of Babylon

Isa 46:2

2 They stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the burden, but themselves are gone into captivity.

Notice: stoop, bow down,

Just like the woman that Jesus encounters back in Luke. So the gods of Babylon have loaded these people up w burdens.

Piecing this together, the woman from Luke 13 represents the burdened people in Isaiah 46. Who would be the Babylonians? The religious leaders

Isa 46:3-4

3 Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, that have been borne by me from their birth, that have been carried from the womb; 4 and even to old age I am he, and even to hoar hairs will I carry you; I have made, and I will bear; yea, I will carry, and will deliver.

In Luke 13 in his interaction with the bowed and stooped woman, Jesus is putting himself as the deliverer from Isaiah 46.

Luk 13:14

14 And the ruler of the synagogue, being moved with indignation because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, answered and said to the multitude, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the day of the sabbath.

Which day was Jesus resurrected? The third day

That day will his body on earth be resurrected? Spiritually, on the third day

1Co 6:14

and God both raised the Lord, and will raise up us through his power.

Luk 13:15-17

15 But the Lord answered him, and said, Ye hypocrites, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?  16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan had bound, lo, these eighteen years, to have been loosed from this bond on the day of the sabbath?  17 And as he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame: and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

Luk 13:18-21

18 He said therefore, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I liken it? 19 It is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his own garden; and it grew, and became a tree; and the birds of the heaven lodged in the branches thereof. 20 And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God?  21 It is like unto leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened.

Two different ways to look at these parables:

  1. Good - how

  2. Bad - how

Luk 13:22-23

22 And he went on his way through cities and villages, teaching, and journeying on unto Jerusalem. 23 And one said unto him, Lord, are they few that are saved? And he said unto them,

Why would someone say “Lord are there FEW that are saved?

Maybe because they assumed that His last two parables about the kingdom of God suggest that it becomes corrupted?

##

Luk 13:24-25

24 Strive to enter in by the narrow door: for many, I say unto you, shall seek to enter in, and shall not be able.  25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, open to us; and he shall answer and say to you, I know you not whence ye are;

Ecc 12:1-5

1 Remember also thy Creator in the days of thy youth, before the evil days come, and the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; 2 before the sun, and the light, and the moon, and the stars, are darkened, and the clouds return after the rain; 3 in the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows shall be darkened, 4 and the doors shall be shut in the street; when the sound of the grinding is low, and one shall rise up at the voice of a bird, and all the daughters of music shall be brought low; 5 yea, they shall be afraid of that which is high, and terrors shall be in the way; and the almond-tree shall blossom, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail; because man goeth to his everlasting home, and the mourners go about the streets:

Luk 13:26

26 then shall ye begin to say, We did eat and drink in thy presence, and thou didst teach in our streets; (a broad way)

Pro 7:10-13

10 And, behold, there met him a woman  With the attire of a harlot, and wily of heart. 11 (She is clamorous and wilful;  Her feet abide not in her house: 12 Now she is in the streets, now in the broad places,  And lieth in wait at every corner.) 13 So she caught him, and kissed him,  And with an impudent face she said unto him:

Luk 13:27-28

27 and he shall say, I tell you, I know not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.

Psa 6:6-8

6 I am weary with my groaning;  Every night make I my bed to swim;  I water my couch with my tears. 7 Mine eye wasteth away because of grief;  It waxeth old because of all mine adversaries. 8 Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity;  For Jehovah hath heard the voice of my weeping.

28 There shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and yourselves cast forth without.

Mat 8:12

but the sons of the kingdom shall be cast forth into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

Mat 13:42

and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

Mat 13:50

and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

Mat 22:13

Then the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and cast him out into the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

Mat 24:51

and shall cut him asunder, and appoint his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

Mat 25:30

And cast ye out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

Mic 3:4-7

4 Then shall they cry unto Jehovah, but he will not answer them; yea, he will hide his face from them at that time, according as they have wrought evil in their doings. 5 Thus saith Jehovah concerning the prophets that make my people to err; that bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace; and whoso putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him: 6 Therefore it shall be night unto you, that ye shall have no vision; and it shall be dark unto you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down upon the prophets, and the day shall be black over them. 7 And the seers shall be put to shame, and the diviners confounded; yea, they shall all cover their lips; for there is no answer of God.

Luk 13:29-30

29 And they shall come from the east and west, and from the north and south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.  30 And behold, there are last who shall be first, and there are first who shall be last.

John 21:15-25 Agape vs Phileo

 Review

Last week we read John 21 where Peter takes six disciples fishing in Galilee at night and they catch nothing. As the sun comes up, a guy from the shore yells to them to put the net on the right side of the boat.

  1. Who is the only one to recognize that the guy on the beach is Jesus? John

  1. Peter what John says and immediately jumps in the water and swims to shore, we think naked.

  1. We had also discussed how Peter is typed as the church, and he is also typed as a disciple who sees but does not believe or understand.

  1. Who was the disciple that sees and believes? John, the disciple that Jesus loved.

  1. The remaining six disciples in the boat put the net on the right side and haul in 153 fish. They bring the haul to the beach hoping they're net won't break in the process. Peter comes and helps from the beach.

  1. We discovered that Ezekiel 47: 1-10 is a parallel passage which shows water coming out of the right side of a temple which opens to the east.

  1. The water flows out into the river and heals and restores. Nets cast into the river and all kinds of fish are caught.

  1. Both Ezekiel 47 and the verses from John 21 seem to occur at the third time or the third day at Jesus's return.

John 21:12-15

12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and break your fast. And none of the disciples durst inquire of him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord. 13 Jesus cometh, and taketh the bread, and giveth them, and the fish likewise. 14 This is now the third time that Jesus was manifested to the disciples, after that he was risen from the dead. 15 So when they had broken their fast, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of John, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

  1. Vs12 Does Jesus seem to look different?

  1. Vs13 Where did the bread come from?

  1. Vs15 After they eat, Jesus says Simon, son of John, lovest thou me more than these?

  1. Simon = G4613  heard, harkening, hearing

  2. Peter = G4074 a rock or stone

  3. Cephas = G2786 a stone (the Aramaic equivalent of Peter)

  1. Jesus calls him Simon 9x’s in the gospels. Let's look at a couple of verses.

  1. (2x’s) Luk 22:31 Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have you, that he might sift you as wheat:

  1. Joh 1:42 He brought him unto Jesus. Jesus looked upon him, and said, Thou art Simon the son of John: thou shalt be called Cephas (which is by interpretation, Peter).

  1. In this verse Jesus seems to be changing Simon’s name to Cephas, which means Peter. Cephas seems to be Peter in Aramaic.

  1. Why change his name?

  1. Who else in the bible had their name changed?

  1. In John, Jesus never refers to him as Peter. In the verse we just read, John spoke the Aramaic word.

  1. This is the only verse that Jesus calls him Cephas. Altho Paul calls him Cephas five times and he calls him Peter twice.

  1. John 21:15-17

  1. So Jesus calls him Simon 9xs, and believe it or not only calls him Peter twice in Gospels:

  1. Mat 16:18  And I also say unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

  1. Luk 22:34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, until thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

  1. Not at all in Mark.

  1. Not at all in John.

  1. Jesus only calls him Cephas once in Gospels. We already read it…

  1. Joh 1:42 He brought him unto Jesus. Jesus looked upon him, and said, Thou art Simon the son of John: thou shalt be called Cephas (which is by interpretation, Peter).

  1. Vs15 Simon, son of John, lovest thou me more than these? What might this mean?

  1. Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonah, lovest (g25 Agapao) thou me more than these?

  1. Love here is agapao. Unconditional love that is not based on emotion or affection but on decision of the will. Given no matter whether it's reciprocated or not. A deeper unconditional love.

  1. Do you love (agapao) me more than these? What is Jesus asking?

  1. Do you love me more than these guys love me?

  1. Could it be in response to what Peter said:

Mat 26:33 But Peter answered and said unto him, If all shall be offended in thee, I will never be offended.

  1. If so, is this a rebuke from Jesus? Seems to be.

  1. Could Jesus be asking Peter if he loves the fish more than him? Is Jesus annoyed that the disciples and Peter in particular went back to fishing?

  1. What if Jesus is asking Peter if he love him more than he love his fellow disciples?

  1. Peter's response: Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee.”

  1. Peter doesn't seem to respond to the question of “do you love me MORE than these?”

  1. As a matter of fact, Peter doesn't respond by saying “of course I agape (unconditionally love) you”

  1. Peter responds by using the Greek word “phileo” (g5368) which means “tender affection” of a friend or brother. Is this unconditional love?

  1. Jesus replies “Feed my lambs”. Pasture, graze, or feed my little lambs or lambkins.

  1. How might we put Jesus's statement into spiritual terms? “Feed the babies, or immature Christians”

John 21:16

16 He saith to him again a second time, Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Tend my sheep.

  1. Jesus says the second time, Simon do you agape me?

  1. Jesus leaves out the “do you love me more” part.

  1. Peter responds Lord you know I phileo you.

  1. Jesus says, tend my sheep

  1. Tend, rule as a shepherd or supervisor

  2. Sheep in NT. Not baby lambs

John 21:17

17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

  1. Noticed that this is the third time. What else occurred regarding Peter three times? He denies Jesus 3x’s.

  1. This may be why Jesus responds three times.

  1. Probably a very teachable moment that isn't lost on Peter.

  1. Notice Jesus says, phileo thou me? Do you (even) have “brotherly love” for me?

  1. Why does Jesus change from agape to phileo love? Unsure. Unless he is questioning Peter’s ability to even show brotherly or phileo love.

  1. Peter is offended or saddened because Jesus questions his love 3x’s. It seems fair that Jesus responds to Peter’s denial.

  1. Peter says, Lord you know all things and know that I phileo you.

  1. Jesus replies “feed my sheep”. Or “Pasture, graze, or feed my sheep. (Not baby lambs).

  1. Notice this subtle change of Jesus's three charges to Peter:

  1. Feed the baby lambs, (or immature Christians)

  1. Shepherd or supervise the sheep (mature Christians)

  1. Feed the sheep (mature Christians)

  1. So maybe this is Jesus's response to Peter going back to fishing. Maybe he is reiterating what his job should be?

  1. Feed the babies, Shepherd the grown-ups and feed the grown-ups.

  1. One last thing: There may be a sense of growth or maturity that is being hinted at here, feed the immature, shepherd or tend the mature and feed the mature.

John 21:18-19

18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not. 19 Now this he spake, signifying by what manner of death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

  1. When you were young, you girded or prepared yourself.

  1. When you were young, you walked wherever you wanted.

  1. But when you are old, you will stretch forth your hands and somebody else will gird or prepare you. And carry you to where you don't want to go.

  1. What is the point of Jesus saying this? He is telling Peter the manner of death that he should glorify God. And that he should follow him.

  1. But what else is he telling Peter? First let's look at the two different kinds of love that were mentioned: agape and phileo

  1. When you are young, you gird or preparing yourself. Does this require agape or phileo love? Phileo

  1. When you are young, and walk wherever you want. Does this require agape or phileo love? Phileo

  1. When you are old, you will stretch forth your hands and somebody else will gird or prepare you, and carry you where you wouldn't want to go. Does this require agape or phileo love? Agape

  1. You would willingly go to your cross in sacrifice like Jesus did.

  1. Peter proves that he had agape love by being willing to go to a cross at the end of his life.

John 21:20-25

20 Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; who also leaned back on his breast at the supper, and said, Lord, who is he that betrayeth thee? 21 Peter therefore seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? 22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me. 23 This saying therefore went forth among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, that he should not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? 24 This is the disciple that beareth witness of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his witness is true. 25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that should be written.
