Scarlet Thread

 Scarlet Thread

Rev 5:5

and one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not; behold, the Lion that is of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath overcome to open the book and the seven seals thereof.

-Jesus was born of the tribe of Judah, one of Jacobs twelve sons

-hath overcome. What might he had to overcome?

Third day (or 7th day)

-Jesus restores withered hand on Sabbath (Luke 6)

-Strength of His people had all but disappeared

He also:

  1. revive and raise us up

  2. flesh is burnt off (dead body)

  3. somehow we lay down works of the flesh in/on the 7th day

  4. seems to be for those looking for him

  5. Esther put on royal apparel on 7th day

  6. eastern gate in INNER court is opened (Eze 46:1) is opened on 7th day

  7. burns as a furnace

  8. distress upon men

  9. Jesus'  appearance is transformed/metamorphasized

  10. Jesus turns water into wine (best wine)

Ezr 6:15

And this house was finished on the third day of the month Adar (March or April), which was in the sixth year of the reign of Darius the king.

-rebuild at Jerusalem was done on the third day

Luk 9:22

saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.

In Rev 11, Jesus said Babylon was which two cities spiritually:

Egypt and Sodom

Eze 30:20-22

20 And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the first month, in the seventh day of the month, that the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 21 Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and, lo, it hath not been bound up, to apply healing medicines, to put a bandage to bind it, that it be strong to hold the sword. 22 Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and will break his arms, the strong arm, and that which was broken; and I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand.

So Egypt (Babylon) has held the sword, but on day 7, God breaks Egypt (Babylon) arm to cause the sword to fall out of his wayhand.

And which day did Jesus strengthen the withered man's hand in Luke 6?

-Sabbath

***So on day 3 or 7, Jesus takes the sword out of Babylon/Egypt's hand  and gives strength to the whithered hand.

***Withered hand would be the small remnant from Isaiah 1:9

Let's see another hidden picture of God's work in the life of Judah from the OT:

Gen 38:1-30

***Seems to begin right after his brothers sell their brother Joseph into slavery:

1 And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah. 2 And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite whose name was Shua; and he took her, and went in unto her. 3 And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er. 4 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan. 5 And she yet again bare a son, and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him.

-Judah goes to Adullam to his friend Hirah

-Judah mets and marries (?) Shua's daughter

-the have 3 sons, Er, Onan, Shelah

6 And Judah took a wife for Er his first-born, and her name was Tamar. 7 And Er, Judah's first-born, was wicked in the sight of Jehovah; and Jehovah slew him. 8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother unto her, and raise up seed to thy brother. 9 And Onan knew that the seed would not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest he should give seed to his brother. 10 And the thing which he did was evil in the sight of Jehovah: and he slew him also.

-Judah gets a wife Tamar for his first born son, Er

-Er is wicked so God kills him

-Evidently they have no kids

-Custom is such that unmarried second son Onan need to go in and perform his duty to raise up a child on behalf of dead brother.

-Onan does his duty but pulls out and deposits his seed on the ground instead of getting her pregnant

-God kills him for being evil

11 Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter-in-law, Remain a widow in thy father's house, till Shelah my son be grown up; for he said, Lest he also die, like his brethren. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house. 12 And in process of time Shua's daughter, the wife of Judah, died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheep-shearers to Timnah, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.

-Judah promises Tamar his third son who his young, altho he hints that he won't follow thru cause he doesn't wasn't Shelah to die like the first two sons/brothers.

-Tamar goes back to dad's house (childless) to wait for Shelah to grow up and Judah to follow thru on promise

-Judahs wife eventually dies, Judah is comforted and ends up reconnecting with old friend, Hirah the Adullamite

-They go to Timnah to get their sheep sheared. (5-10 miles away)

13 And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold, thy father-in-law goeth up to Timnah to shear his sheep. 14 And she put off from her the garments of her widowhood, and covered herself with her veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in the gate of Enaim, which is by the way to Timnah; for she saw that Shelah was grown up, and she was not given unto him to wife.

-Tamar, who has sat waiting, hears that father-in-law is in town

-Tamar discovers she has been duped. Shelah has grown up and she wasn't given unto him for a wife

-takes off widow garments, covers herself with veil and wrapped herself.

-her garments seem to give her a different connotation.

15 When Judah saw her, he thought her to be a harlot; for she had covered her face. 16 And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Come, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee: for he knew not that she was his daughter-in-law. And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me? 17 And he said, I will send thee a kid of the goats from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it? 18 And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet and thy cord, and thy staff that is in thy hand. And he gave them to her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.

-Judah doesn't recognize her and thinks she is a harlot

-He propositions her, she accepts but wants payment

-He promises her a goat (kid), altho he doesn't have it at the moment

-Prob mistrustful. She wants security so he gives her his signet (ring), staff and his cord (bracelet)

-She gets pregnant...Father-in-law gets DIL pregnant!

19 And she arose, and went away, and put off her veil from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood. 20 And Judah sent the kid of the goats by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive the pledge from the woman's hand: but he found her not. 21 Then he asked the men of her place, saying, Where is the prostitute, that was at Enaim by the wayside? And they said, There hath been no prostitute here. 22 And he returned to Judah, and said, I have not found her; and also the men of the place said, There hath been no prostitute here.

-Tamar puts back on garments of widowhood

-Judah wants his staff, signet and cord back

-so Judah sends the goat (kid) via his friend Hirah the Adullamite

-Hirah can't find her. He asks the men of Eniam who say there is no prostitute there

-He returns and tells Judah

23 And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be put to shame: behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her. 24 And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter-in-law hath played the harlot; and moreover, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.

-Judah says let her keep the signet, the staff and the cord. I tried to send her the goat (kid). I don't need to be shamed

-Three months later, Judah hears that Tamar is pregnant by whoredom.

-Bring her out and burn her!

25 When she was brought forth, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and the cords, and the staff. 26 And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She is more righteous than I; forasmuch as I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.

-As Tamar is being brought forth (to be burned?), she sends to Judah and tells him she is pregnant by the man who owns the staff, the signet and the cord.

-Judah acknowleges the truth that they are his items.

-And evidently that he is the father of her baby

-He did not give Tamar his son Shelah

-He states that she is more righteous than he

-He seemed to have nothing more to do with her

27 And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb. 28 And it came to pass, when she travailed, that one put out a hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first. 29 And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, Wherefore hast thou made a breach for thyself? therefore his name was called Perez. 30 And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zerah.

-At time of her delivery, it is discovered that she is having twins!

-During delivery, one of the babies put a hand out of the womb

-The midwife put a scarlet thread around its wrist to identify which baby was born first.

-The hand was brought back into the womb, and his brother came out

-Either Tamar or the midwife said, "thou hast made a breach for thyself"

-So they call him breach or Perez

-Afterwards came out the baby with the scarlet thread on its hand

-He was named Zareh

Meaning of the twins names

Perez

H6556 - a break, breach, breaking forth (in), X forth, gap.

Zerah

H2226 - "rising"

H2225 - "dawning or shining"

Significance

  1. Hand?

-hint: withered hand restored in Luke 6

-hand represents Jesus, the Gospels and book of Acts time period

  1. Hand pulled back in?

-Slow end of great strength of God thru His people with signs/miracles and wonders

  1. Perez born first?

-represents the church age

-prob the past 1800-2000 yrs

  1. Zerah, with scarlet thread born last

-represents the restoration of the withered hand on the sabbath and more because the entire child is born

Do it again.

Rising Light (Zerah) ---> Breach (Perez)---> Rising Light (Zerah)

  1. Beginning of the church - birthed with Zerah hand. Spirit born. But hand is pulled back in.

  1. Then Breach (gap/break) occurs. Perez is born. Fleshly

  1. They on 3rd day, Zerah is born entirely.

Eze 46:1

Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: The gate of the inner court that looketh toward the east shall be shut the six working days; but on the sabbath day it shall be opened, and on the day of the new moon it shall be opened.

Mat 19:30

But many shall be last that are first; and first that are last.

Said another way.

Former rain (Zerah) and later rain (Zerah)

Hos 6:2-3

2 After two days will he revive us: on the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live before him. 3 And let us know, let us follow on to know Jehovah: his going forth is sure as the morning; and he will come unto us as the rain, as the latter rain that watereth the earth.

Joh 9:4-5

4 We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. 5 When I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

Jesus brings light into world. Zerah. But eventually this occurs:

Joh 11:9-10

9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If a man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.  10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because the light is not in him.

Eventually the light goes out and "man" stumbles because the light is no longer in him. What does God's people rely on when the light "Spirit" goes out? The flesh. Perez

Day seven seems to come with the increase of sunlight that shines through the gate of the inner court. Zerah

What two times are the scarlet thread mentioned in Genesis?

-Zerah's hand

-Zerah's entire body

What other time is the scarlet thread mentioned that we have read?

-Rahab

**When does this occurs?

-when the "two spies" are sent into the city of "Jericho" which means "broad" or "wide"

-time of the two witnesses

Jos 2:18

Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt gather unto thee into the house thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household.

Jos 2:21

And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.

Jos 6:17

And the city shall be devoted, even it and all that is therein, to Jehovah: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.

Mic 5:2-4

2 But thou, Beth-lehem Ephrathah, which art little to be among the thousands of Judah, out of thee shall one come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.

-Jesus

-Zerah, the first arm that comes out with the scarlet thread

-arm goes back in to the womb

3 Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she who travaileth hath brought forth: then the residue of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel. 4 And he shall stand, and shall feed his flock in the strength of Jehovah, in the majesty of the name of Jehovah his God: and they shall abide; for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

-Zerah; second born with scarlet thread who was really born first

Both Jericho and Perez may represent the church age. And Zerah represents the ministry of the spirit in the early rain of the church and the coming latter rain on day 7 when the withered hand is restored.

The Two Witnesses/The Branch

 The Branch/Two Witnesses

Isa 1:8-9

8 And the daughter of Zion is left as a booth in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city. 9 Except Jehovah of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, we should have been like unto Gomorrah.

*God follows patterns and when he comes again, those looking for him are very small.

3rd/7th Day

  1. revive and raise us up

  2. flesh is burnt off (dead body)

  3. somehow we lay down works of the flesh in/on the 7th day

  4. seems to be for those looking for him

  5. Esther put on royal apparel on 7th day

  6. eastern gate in INNER court is opened (Eze 46:1) is opened on 7th day

  7. burns as a furnace

  8. distress upon men

  9. Jesus'  appearance is transformed/metamorphasized

Zec 4:6-7

6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of Jehovah unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith Jehovah of hosts. 7 Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel (descended from Babylon) thou shalt become a plain; and he shall bring forth the top stone with shoutings of Grace, grace, unto it.

***God seems to use his people the level the "great mountain", "great city", the tree from Dan 4, Babylon/Egypt/Sodom.

-None of this is done by "man's works" but by God's spirit.

Rev 11:5-6

5 And if any man desireth to hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth and devoureth their enemies; and if any man shall desire to hurt them, in this manner must he be killed. 6 These have the power to shut the heaven, that it rain not during the days of their prophecy: and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood, and to smite the earth with every plague, as often as they shall desire.

Psa 110:5-7

5 The Lord at thy right hand  Will strike through kings in the day of his wrath. 6 He will judge among the nations,  He will fill the places with dead bodies;  He will strike through the head in many countries. 7 He will drink of the brook in the way:  Therefore will he lift up the head.

-day of His wrath (day 7) - furnace, distress up men

Arm of the Lord

John 12:38; Isaiah 53:1

Rev 2:26

And he that overcometh, and he that keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give authority over the nations:

Elijah drank of the brook of the way

(Speaks of Elijah 3x's and Elisha once)

1Ki 17:4

And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

1Ki 17:6

And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

...he will lift up the head. (Psalms 110:7)

Psa 27:5-6

5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me secretly in his pavilion:  In the covert of his tabernacle will he hide me;  He will lift me up upon a rock. 6 And now shall my head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me;  And I will offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy;  I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto Jehovah.

Luk 21:28

But when these things begin to come to pass, look up, and lift up your heads; because your redemption draweth nigh.

What things begin to come to pass?

***The destruction of Jerusalem and the 2nd coming of Jesus***

***On day 7, Jesus strengthens his people substantially.

  1. He shall lift our head above our enemies.

  2. Drink of the brook in the way

  3. Strike the nation's

  4. Judge the head of countries

  5. Level the "Great Mountain" and form a plain (Babylon?)

  6. Fire decsendeth forth from their mouth and devours their enemies

  7. have the power to shut the heaven, that it rain not during the days of their prophecy:

  8. have power over the waters to turn them into blood

Luk 6:5-6

5 And he said unto them, The Son of man is lord of the sabbath. 6 And it came to pass on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man there, and his right hand was withered

  1. what day? Sabbath, 7th

  2. Which hand was withered? Right

  3. who is the man with the withered hand? God's small withered people on day 7.

Luke 6:7-8

7 And the scribes and the Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath; that they might find how to accuse him. 8 But he knew their thoughts; and he said to the man that had his hand withered. Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.

  1. who are the earth dwellers in this? Scribes and pharasees

  2. who are the dwellers in heaven? Jesus and the man

  3. what did Jesus require from withered man? Faith and obedience to "rise up and stand in the midst"

  4. Jesus restores him/heaven dwellers. They remain withered otherwise.

***The withered man

Luke 6:9-10

9 And Jesus said unto them, I ask you, is it lawful on the sabbath to do good, or to do harm? to save a life, or to destroy it?  10 And he looked round about on them all, and said unto him, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored.

-in vs 5, Jesus says : "The Son of man is lord of the sabbath". Why? He seems to have the ability on the sabbath, to restore his withered people.

Heb 4:9-10

9 There remaineth therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest hath himself also rested from his works, as God did from his.

***Remember, we lay down the works of the flesh on day 7, which are 'our' works and we seem to do his works when he restores his temple/people/withered hand.

Luke 6:11

11 But they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.

***Madness will be the reaction of the "earth dwellers" towards the restoration of the "dwellers in heavens".

-Two witnesses tormented the "earth dwellers" in Rev 11:10

-In Rev 11:7, they kill the two witnesses just like they kill Jesus

The Branch

Zec 3:1-2

1 And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of Jehovah, and Satan standing at his right hand to be his adversary. 2 And Jehovah said unto Satan, Jehovah rebuke thee, O Satan; yea, Jehovah that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?

So who is here?

-Joshua, Satan, Angel of the Lord, the Lord

So what does this mean? "The Lord that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee"

Brand plucked out of the fire? What fire???

Mal 4:1

For, behold, the day (seven day) cometh, it burneth as a furnace; and all the proud, and all that work wickedness, shall be stubble...

****Don't read this unless there is time****

Amo 4:2-6

2 The Lord Jehovah hath sworn by his holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that they shall take you away with hooks, and your residue with fish-hooks. 3 And ye shall go out at the breaches, every one straight before her; and ye shall cast yourselves into Harmon, saith Jehovah. 4 Come to Beth-el, and transgress; to Gilgal, and multiply transgression; and bring your sacrifices every morning, and your tithes every three days; 5 and offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving of that which is leavened, and proclaim freewill-offerings and publish them: for this pleaseth you, O ye children of Israel, saith the Lord Jehovah. 6 And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places; yet have ye not returned unto me, saith Jehovah.

Amo 4:10-12

10 I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Egypt: your young men have I slain with the sword, and have carried away your horses; and I have made the stench of your camp to come up even into your nostrils: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith Jehovah. 11 I have overthrown cities among you, as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a brand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith Jehovah. 12 Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel; and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.

Zech 3:3-4

3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the angel. 4 And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take the filthy garments flrom off him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with rich apparel.

  1. Why does Joshua have filthy garments? Was Jesus dirty?

Rev 5:5….behold, the Lion that is of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath overcome to open the book and the seven seals thereof.

  1. What does the angel say "take the filthy garments from off him?

  1. How does the angel have the authority to cause Joshua's inquiry to pass AND clothe him in rich apparel?

  1. Vs 1 and 3 mention Joshua as standing before the angel. Why?

****Joshua in this parable represents the overcomer but also the two witness ministry***

***The angel of the Lord represents Jesus (hidden in OT)(or as in John 7 in first half of Feast of Tabernacles)***

**Here is a picture of this chapter:

2Co 3:18

But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord the Spirit.

And

Col 3:1

If then ye were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God.

Back to Zech...

Zech 3:5-6

5 And I said, Let them set a clean mitre upon his head. So they set a clean mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments; and the angel of Jehovah was standing by. 6 And the angel of Jehovah protested (repeated/gave warning) unto Joshua, saying,

***Angel repeats the warning because this represents Christ.

Zech 3:7

7 Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou also shalt judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee a place of access among these that stand by.

Rev 3:12

He that overcometh, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go out thence no more..

Zech 3:8

8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou and thy fellows that sit before thee; for they are men that are a sign: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the Branch.

What sign?

-The two witness ministry, the small remnant in Is 1:9 who God uses mightily on day 7.

Zech 3:9-10

9 For, behold, the stone that I have set before Joshua; upon one stone are seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith Jehovah of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day. 10 In that day, saith Jehovah of hosts, shall ye invite every man his neighbor under the vine and under the fig-tree.

  1. Who is the stone set before Joshua? Jesus

  1. One stone with seven eyes??

Rev 5:6b... a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, having seven horns, and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, sent forth into all the earth.

  1. behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith Jehovah of hosts

Exo 28:11 With the work of an engraver in stone, like the engravings of a signet, shalt thou engrave the two stones, according to the names of the children of Israel: thou shalt make them to be inclosed in settings of gold.

Exo 28:36 And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLY TO JEHOVAH.

***God is speaking of His people on day 7 when he has done his work on the sabbath and restored the withered hand. It will be HOLY to Him on that day.

And just like Jesus said in Luke 6:9

"And Jesus said unto them, I ask you, is it lawful on the sabbath to do good, or to do harm? to save a life, or to destroy it?" He saves it!

  1. i will remove the iniquity if that land in one day. What day, what land?

  2. In "that day", the Lord will invite (call) under the vine and fig tree.

Remember this verse…

Mat 24:32

 Now from the fig tree learn her parable: when her branch is now become tender, and putteth forth its leaves, ye know that the summer is nigh;

Tender - delicate, full of sap
