Enoch - Part 3

 Chapter 14

1. Enoch begins to tell us (and them) what he saw in his vision. He reiterates that God has given him the power of reprimanding the watchers. 

2. Enoch states that their petition of God for forgiveness and an end date for their imprisonment will never be granted.

3. You will never ascend into heaven and any prayers on behalf of your child (Nephilim) will go unanswered despite your remorse.

Why? I guess God had to watch His children be brutally treated by the fallen watchers??

4. Enoch's vision involved being whisked away upward into heaven. Past crystal walls, tongues of fire, between cherubim, past a large house built with crystal to a larger house built with flames of fire. The flames of fire made it look like crystal.

5. As he entered into the house, Enoch was afraid, began trembling, and fell on his face. The splendor and magnificence of the house was indescribable.

6. In it was a lofty throne which looked like crystal, (with wheels as the shining sun?). Flames of fire came from underneath the throne and Enoch couldn't look at it.

7. God sat on the throne. His garment was brighter than the sun and whiter than snow. Angels could not enter and see His face because the magnificence of His glory. Certainly no flesh could enter in either.

8. Flaming fire was round about God. Ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. (Angels? Cherubim?) God needed no counselor. The most holy ones were near Him, never departing from him. (Watchers?)

9. Enoch, still on his face, hears God say "come here Enoch and hear My Word". A holy one comes to Enoch, wakes him, makes him stand up and approach the door (to the house?). He bows his face downward.

Chapter 15

1. Fear not Enoch, approach and hear. Tell the evil watchers "you should have been interceding for men, not man interceding for you".

What was one of the jobs of the watchers? Interceding for man.

What else? According to Daniel?

1. Carried out God's decrees (Dan 4:17)

2. Appeared in Daniel's dream to carry out God's command to cut down the tree of Nebuchadnezzar but leave the stump. (Dan 4:23)

2. God continues his message to Enoch for the watchers: 

1. You have left heaven, laid with women, defiled them and yourself, and had giants for children.

2. You were holy, spiritual w eternal life and you have defiled yourself. You lusted after flesh and  blood as those who die.

3. I allowed men to have wives and children. But I had not appointed that for you.

4. You were the spiritual, immortal ones from heaven.

5. The giants (or Nephilim), your sons, shall be called evil spirits on the earth and they shall dwell on the earth.

6. Evil spirits have proceeded from their bodies (upon death?) because they are born from men and holy Watchers. 

7. Spirits of heaven have their dwelling in heaven. Spirits born upon the earth shall have their dwelling on the earth.

8. Earth bond evil spirits shall afflict, oppress, destroy, attack, do battle, and work destruction on the earth, and cause trouble.

9. They take no food, but nevertheless hunger and thirst, and cause offences. And these spirits shall rise up against the children of men and against the women, because they have proceeded from them.

Mat 12:43 

But the unclean spirit, when he is gone out of the man, passeth through waterless places, seeking rest, and findeth it not. 

Chapter 16

1. So there was a period of time where the giants were slaughtered or killed. This produced the evil spirits who are allowed to destroy without judgement till the judgement (prob on day 7?)

Mat 8:28-29 

28 And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gadarenes, there met him two possessed with demons, coming forth out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man could pass by that way. 29 And behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?

What time? The judgement (day). So the evil spirits knew that judgement wasn't yet. 

What day is judgement day? 

Prob 7th day

What day was it?

Either the end of 4th day or early on day 5th

2. Say to the watchers "Altho you were in heaven, all mysteries hadn't been revealed to you. The worthless mysteries you did know spread much evil on the earth. Therefore you will have no peace.

Mount Hermon

Mount Hermon, snowcapped ridge on the Lebanon-Syria border west of Damascus. It rises to 9,232 feet (2,814 metres) and is the highest point on the east coast of the Mediterranean Sea.

What happened on Mount Hermon in Enoch?

1. Mountain where the 200 watchers met to swear an oath to all bind themselves by mutual curse not to abandon this plan but to do this thing.' And they were in all two hundred; who descended in the days of Jared on the summit of Mount Hermon.

 Where is Mt Hermon found in the bible?

2. Jos 13:5

and the land of the Gebalites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrising, from Baal-gad under mount Hermon unto the entrance of Hamath;

3. Jdg 3:3 

namely, the five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that dwelt in mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-hermon unto the entrance of Hamath.

Baal-hermon?

a city near or on Mount Hermon, named as a seat of Baal worship

4. Hermon in the NT?

Mar 8:27-29 

27 And Jesus went forth, and his disciples, into the villages of Cæsarea Philippi: and on the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Who do men say that I am? 28 And they told him, saying, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but others, One of the prophets. 29 And he asked them, But who say ye that I am? Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.

1. Where is Caesaria Philipi? In the foothills of Mt Hermon

5. Mar 9:2-4

2 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them; 3 and his garments became glistering, exceeding white, so as no fuller on earth can whiten them. 4 And there appeared unto them Elijah with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.

1. Jesus is transfigured on a high mountain.

2. Which mountain? Unsure but history points to two possible locations.

3. Either Mt Tabor or Mt Hermon

4. Only clue that Mark 9 gives is Jesus "bringeth them up into a high mountain"

5. Height: 

Mt Tabor = 1,882 feet

Mt Hermon = 9,232 feet

6. If this is Mt Hermon, what is the significance of Jesus showing up here and transfiguring?

Ginormous!!

The phrase in "in the days of Noah"

1Pe 3:20 

that aforetime were disobedient, when the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water:

Mat 24:37-39 

37 And as were the days of Noah, so shall be the coming of the Son of man. 38 For as in those days which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, 39 and they knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall be the coming of the Son of man.

Luk 17:26-27 

26 And as it came to pass in the days of Noah, even so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.  27  They ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. 

The Abyss? Jesus' encounter with legion

Luk 8:27-31 

27 And when he was come forth upon the land, there met him a certain man out of the city, who had demons; and for a long time he had worn no clothes, and abode not in any house, but in the tombs. 28 And when he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the Most High God? I beseech thee, torment me not. 29 For he was commanding the unclean spirit to come out from the man. For oftentimes it had seized him: and he was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters; and breaking the bands asunder, he was driven of the demon into the deserts. 30 And Jesus asked him, What is thy name? And he said, Legion; for many demons were entered into him. 31 And they entreated him that he would not command them to depart into the abyss.

Abyss

1. bottomless pit

2. unbounded

3. the immeasurable depth

4. of Orcus, a very deep gulf or chasm in the lowest parts of the earth used as the common receptacle of the dead and especially as the abode of demons

Could this "abyss" be the same as "Tartarus" (the place where the evil watchers are kept till judgement day)?

1. Where else is the abyss mentioned?

1. Rom 10:6-7 

6 But the righteousness which is of faith saith thus, Say not in thy heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down:) 7 or, Who shall descend into the abyss? (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead.)

2. Did Jesus go to the abyss? Not certain. 

3. Where did 2 Peter say the spirits were sent? Tartarus

2Pe 2:4 

For if God spared not angels when they sinned, but cast them down to hell (Tartarus), and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

4. Is there another verse that sheds light on these spirits in chains that Jesus may have visited?

1Pe 3:18-20 

18 Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God; being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; 19 in which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison, 20 that aforetime were disobedient, when the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water:

The word here is prison. 

-Not the the "abyss" and not "Tartarus''. But a cage, hold, (im-) prison (-ment), ward, watch.

Who are these?

1. Can't be the Nephilim.

2. Possibly the wicked human spirits from Genesis? It never tells us what happened to them. Were they sent to prison? Unsure

3. Certainly seem to be the evil watchers from Gen 6:1-4

5. Is it possible that Tartarus, the Abyss and prison are terms used interchangeably about the same location? Possibly

6. Where else is the abyss mentioned?

Rev 9:1-4 

1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star from heaven fallen unto the earth: and there was given to him the key of the pit of the abyss. 2 And he opened the pit of the abyss; and there went up a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. 3 And out of the smoke came forth locusts upon the earth; and power was given them, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 And it was said unto them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree, but only such men as have not the seal of God on their foreheads.

Timeline?

1. Sons of God descended in the days of Jared on the summit of Mount Hermon

2. Could have appeared on My Hermon early on in Jared's life. Conservatively, if the watchers appear at the 500th year from creation, when Jared is 40 years old, Noah still isn't born for another 556 years. 

3. The flood does not begin till Noah is 600 years old. So that leaves approx 1156 years till God sent the flood.

4. That is a lot of time for the sons of God to come down, mate with the women, have offspring of giants/Nephilim, and corrupt mankind, fish, creeping things and birds.

5. But remember, part of this period of time includes the 500 years that God grants the Nephilim as their lifespan, as they commit civil war against each other and kill each other. Remember that part of the punishment of the watchers was to watch their beloved child slaughter each other?

6. When the watchers had seen their beloved children slain, then God sends Michael chain up the evil watchers and put them in prison OR Tartarus. The Nephilim after death wander the earth as evil spirits to oppress, destroy, attack, do battle, cause trouble, and work destruction towards all of mankind.
