Chapter 10
God tells Uriel to tell Noah to hide himself because a flood is coming that will destroy the earth but his seed will be preserved.
God tells Raphael to bind Azazel, cast him into darkness in an opening in the desert called Dudael. Cover his face, and keep him there till judgement day where he will be cast into the fire.
Remember 2Pet 2:4
2Pe 2:4
For if God spared not angels when they sinned, but cast them down to hell (Tartarus), and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
Hell? No Tartarus
-Only used once in NT. -Possible used in Septuagint?
Definition
-the name of the subterranean region, doleful and dark, regarded by the ancient Greeks as the abode of the wicked dead, where they suffer punishment for their evil deeds
Tartarus is a Greek word found in Greek mythology, and it—like Hades— describes a prison/place of holding. This prison is intended to hold deities who have fallen out of favor with the current ruling deities. For instance, Zeus is said to have imprisoned his father, Kronos, as well as other Titans in Tartarus (a place that some of the Titans would eventually be released from). Homer informs us that Tartarus was believed to be the lower or lowest underworld. In the Iliad, Zeus says that Tartarus is “as far beneath Hades as Heaven is above earth.”
Raphael proclaims healing on the earth which the angels/watchers have taught and corrupted. Ascribe to Azazel all sin.
So here, the corrupt angels or (sons of God) are also called watchers. Where else do we hear about watchers?
Dan 4:13
I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and a holy one came down from heaven.
Dan 4:23
And whereas the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew down the tree, and destroy it; nevertheless leave the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field, and let it be wet with the dew of heaven: and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;
They were called watchers b/c the angels were constantly watching humanity (for references to angels ‘watching’ see Genesis 6:2; 1 Corinthians 4:9, 11:10; 1 Timothy 3:16 and 1 Peter 1:12)
1Co 4:9
For, I think, God hath set forth us the apostles last of all, as men doomed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, both to angels and men.
1Co 11:10
for this cause ought the woman to have a sign of authority on her head (head covering), because of the angels.
1Ti 3:16
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness; He who was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the spirit, Seen of angels, Preached among the nations, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory.
1Pe 1:12
To whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto you, did they minister these things, which now have been announced unto you through them that preached the gospel unto you by the Holy Spirit sent forth from heaven; which things angels desire to look into.
And God said to Gabriel 'Proceed against the Nephilim and their children' and stir up civil war between them. I will answer none of their prayers and will limit their life span to five hundred years.
And the Lord said to Michael: 'Bind Semjaza and his fellow watchers who have defiled themselves with women. They shall witness the civil war and the destruction of their loved ones, bind them fast for seventy generations in the valleys of the earth, till judgement day. Then they shall be led off to the abyss of fire: and 14 to the torment and the prison forever.
The watchers are bound till judgement day them led off to the "abyss of fire"?
What might we know this place as?
The lake of fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
Mat 25:41
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels:
Include the condemned and destroyed in this abyss of fire. Destroy all the spirits of the reprobate and the children of the Watchers. Destroy all wrong and let every evil work come to an end.
During the command to Michael, God says "Let the plant of righteousness and truth appear: and it shall prove a blessing; the works of righteousness and truth' shall be planted in truth and joy for evermore." Who might this represent?
Jesus?
Notice that Michael is the one doing this. What might be the significance? In OT, Michael was the prince of the children of Israel/God
Dan 10:13
But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days; but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me: and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
Then shall all the righteous escape, bear children and complete in peace. Eventually the whole earth shall be righteous and worship God.
Chapter 11
In those days, truth and peace shall throughout all the days of the world and generations of men.
Chapter 12
Enoch, we find, has been taken by God is working with the Watchers/holy ones.
Gen 5:23-24
23 and all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: 24 and Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
Enoch is sent by the good heavenly watchers to speak to the evil watchers:
"You have worked great destruction on the earth: You will have no peace nor forgiveness of sin: you shall see murder of your loved, and feel sorrowful. You shall seek forgiveness for eternity, but never attain mercy and peace."
Chapter 13
Enoch says to Azazel "you will have no peace, a harsh sentence has been decreed. You will be put in chains, without toleration and no requests will be granted because of what you have done."
I'm assuming that this is before they are put into chains in prisons of darkness or tartarus??
I spoke to them all together and they were fearful, afraid and trembling. They asked me to intercede to God on their behalf for forgiveness.
Jas 2:19
Thou believest that God is one; thou doest well: the demons also believe, and shudder.
Enoch writes out their petitions requesting forgiveness and (possibly) an endpoint for their punishment.
Who is Enoch prefiguring here? Jesus
1Pe 3:18-20
18 Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God; being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; 19 in which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison, 20 that aforetime were disobedient, when the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water:
Enoch heads off, sits at the waters of Dan southwest of Mt Hermon and falls asleep reading their petition.
Enoch has dreams/visions of chastisement (Strong verbal reprimand) telling him to tell them to the "evil watchers" the dreams and rebuke them.
Enoch returns to the evil watchers who all sitting gathered together, weeping with their faces covered. He tells them the dreams/visions which he had seen in sleep. He speaks the words of righteousness, and reprimand them.
