42nd Generation
Matt 1:1-3
1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. 2 Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judah and his brethren; 3 and Judah begat Perez and Zerah of Tamar; and Perez begat Hezron; and Hezron begat Ram;
**Notice that it mentions Tamar, Perez and Zerah???***
***Must be something valuable in that story
*There are a few other women mentioned like Ruth and Bathsheba..
Matt 1:16-17
16 and Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.17 So all the generations from Abraham unto David are fourteen generations; and from David unto the carrying away to Babylon fourteen generations; and from the carrying away to Babylon unto the Christ fourteen generations.
14+14+14=42
But…
If you count them, this is what you get
Abraham to David - 14 generations
David to exile to Babylon - 14 generations
Exile to Babylon to Jesus - 13 generations
So it's really 14+14+13=41. Or is it?
The text in verse 17 says there are 14 generations from "Babylon unto the Christ", not just to Jesus.
So, maybe "Babylon to Jesus" is 13 and Jesus to Christ is 1.
14+14+13+1=42 generations
"The 42nd generation is between Jesus and Christ. Jesus came to earth, undressing all the way to enter his humanity. Jesus was the man part of God and Christ is the God-part. Yes, they are one and the same, but they are also different. The 42nd generation that this text is talking about not only was Christ himself, but also is us, the body of Christ. And to that extent, the 42nd generation will come about when Christ is formed in us as the body of Christ."
We are part of the body of Christ too.
Rom 12:5
so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and severally members one of another.
1Co 12:12
For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of the body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ.
Gal 4:28
Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise.
Paul's says we are heirs (Gal 4:7) of the promise!!!
Guess where you and I are in the Genealogy of Christ?
Part of the 42nd Generation, we are part of the body of Christ
****EVERYONE who accepts CHRIST is now of the same GENERATION!!!
Review The Mount of Transfiguration in Mark 9
After 6 days
Jesus, Peter, James and John go to high mountain alone
Jesus transfigured/metamorphoō
Appearance was blistering white
Elijah and Moses appear talking with Jesus
Peters says 'Let me build 3 tabernacles'
Disciples become terrified
Cloud overshadows them and says "This is my beloved son. Hear ye Him"
Suddenly they saw only themselves with Jesus
Lets continue to see what happens right after they come down the mountain. Is this the first event that will occur on day 7 (or 3) right after Jesus reveals himself in a different way?
It starts where Jesus, Peter, James and John catch back up with the other disciples who seem to be arguing with the scribes surrounded by a great multitude.
Mar 9:14-16
14 And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great multitude about them, and scribes questioning with them. 15 And straightway all the multitude, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him. 16 And he asked them, What question ye with them?
When Jesus, Peter, James and John get back, the other disciples are being questioned by the scribes
Multitudes are greatly amazed and run to Jesus
Jesus asks the scribes, "what are you questioning my disciples about?"
Mark 9:17-19
And one of the multitude answered him, Teacher, I brought unto thee my son, who hath a dumb spirit; 18 and wheresoever it taketh him, it dasheth him down: and he foameth, and grindeth his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast it out; and they were not able. 19 And he answereth them and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him unto me.
A man of the multitude says that he brought Him his son who has a dumb spirit
Dumb - speechless, dumb, wanting the faculty of speech
Wherever the dumb spirit takes his son, it
Dashes him down and he foams
Grindeth his teeth and he pineth away
3. He told Jesus disciples to cast out the dumb spirit but they were unable
4. Jesus says "O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him unto me"
Why?
-who is the faithless generation he refers to?
-who is Jesus target audience?
Either:
Disciples who could not cast the demon out??
The "son" with the demon who seems to represents something else??
Remember what 'day' it is AND remember the GENERATION of whom he speaksh
***Earth dwellers***
Hint: Remember those on Paul's fleshly ship who rounded Crete (fleshy) and wanted to continue on in their spiritual journey by fleshly means in the Egyptian ship.
How long has He been with them?
-3rd day so 2000+ years
Who is the son with the "dumb" spirit?
-Think of the tree that a man took and planted in his own garden. What nested in the branches?
Mark 9:20
20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him grievously; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
-he fell on the ground
Fall - descend from a higher place to a lower place
Ground - land, earth
***Earth dwellers***
Example of same Greek phrase
Rev 6:13
and the stars of the heaven fell unto the earth, as a fig tree casteth her unripe figs when she is shaken of a great wind.
Mark 9:21
21 And he asked his father, How long time is it since this hath come unto him? And he said, From a child.
-From a child?
Greek - from childhood, from a child, could be an infant or an older child
Mark 9:22
22 And oft-times it hath cast him both into the fire and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do anything, have compassion on us, and help us.
Cast into the fire
Joh 15:6
If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
Cast into the water
Jas 1:6-8
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing doubting: for he that doubteth is like the surge of the sea driven by the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord; 8 a doubleminded man, unstable in all his ways.
Might these be the earth dwellers?
Rev 3:10
Because thou didst keep the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of trial, that hour which is to come upon the whole world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
Or maybe it is this?? Did the earth dwellers think the process of fire and water was a demon? Was it?
Mat 3:11
I indeed baptize you in water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire:
2Co 4:8-9
8 we are pressed on every side, yet not straitened; perplexed, yet not unto despair; 9 pursued, yet not forsaken; smitten down, yet not destroyed;
1Pe 1:6-7
6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, ye have been put to grief in manifold trials, 7 that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold that perisheth though it is proved by fire, may be found unto praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ:
***I believe these are those whose are Earth dwellers at Jesus second coming.
Mark 9:23-24
23 And Jesus said unto him, If thou canst! All things are possible to him that believeth. 24 Straightway the father of the child cried out, and said, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
**Why does the father say "help thou mine unbelief"?
Because he represents the "earth dwelling" people of God who never allowed the spirit of God to purify them.
No faith. Didn't trust God to work out the process. Though He was going to destroy them.
Just like those in Paul's ship who threw their tackling out on the "third day", these people haven't been purged of their fleshly self.
Mar 9:25
25 And when Jesus saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I command thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
Unclean
Rev 18:2
And he cried with a mighty voice, saying, Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, and is become a habitation of demons, and a hold of every unclean spirit, and a hold of every unclean and hateful bird.
Dumb in OT
Isa 56:10
His watchmen are blind, they are all without knowledge; they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber.
When will the dumb speak?
Eze 24:27
In that day shall thy mouth be opened to him that is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more dumb: so shalt thou be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am Jehovah.
Deaf in OT
Isa 29:18
And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity and out of darkness.
When will the deaf hear?
Isa 29:6
She shall be visited of Jehovah of hosts with thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise, with whirlwind and tempest, and the flame of a devouring fire.
Mark 9:26-29
26 And having cried out, and torn him much, he came out: and the boy became as one dead; insomuch that the more part said, He is dead. 27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and raised him up; and he arose. 28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, How is it that we could not cast it out? 29 And he said unto them, This kind can come out by nothing, save by prayer.
Seems the disciples were unable to cast out this unclean spirit, only Jesus could. This seems to occur on day 3 after Jesus is transfigured.
Ezekiel’s Wife Dies
Eze 24:15-27
15 The word of the Lord came to me: 16 “Son of man, with one blow I am about to take away from you the delight of your eyes. Yet do not lament or weep or shed any tears. 17 Groan quietly; do not mourn for the dead. Keep your turban fastened and your sandals on your feet; do not cover your mustache and beard or eat the customary food of mourners.”
18 So I spoke to the people in the morning, and in the evening my wife died. The next morning I did as I had been commanded.
19 Then the people asked me, “Won’t you tell us what these things have to do with us? Why are you acting like this?”
20 So I said to them, “The word of the Lord came to me: 21 Say to the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am about to desecrate my sanctuary—the stronghold in which you take pride, the delight of your eyes, the object of your affection. The sons and daughters you left behind will fall by the sword. 22 And you will do as I have done. You will not cover your mustache and beard or eat the customary food of mourners. 23 You will keep your turbans on your heads and your sandals on your feet. You will not mourn or weep but will waste away because of[a] your sins and groan among yourselves. 24 Ezekiel will be a sign to you; you will do just as he has done. When this happens, you will know that I am the Sovereign Lord.’
25 “And you, son of man, on the day I take away their stronghold, their joy and glory, the delight of their eyes, their heart’s desire, and their sons and daughters as well— 26 on that day a fugitive will come to tell you the news. 27 At that time your mouth will be opened; you will speak with him and will no longer be silent. So you will be a sign to them, and they will know that I am the Lord.”
