Shall All Be Made Alive? Part 4

Review:

  1. Per Jesus, many stripes for the servant who fell asleep and didn't give food in season.

  2. Per Jesus, few stripes for the unbeliever. We would have thought he would have said the unbeliever would have been thrown for eternity into the fires of hell.

  3. We also saw evidence that the unquenchable fire didn't necessarily burn forever. It only burned until it's purpose has been accomplished. And it will not be shortened by man.

SCRIPTURES EMPHASIZING THE PURPOSE OF GOD TO SAVE ALL MEN

  1. 1Ti 2:3-4 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; 4 who would have all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth.

  1. 2Co 5:15 and he died for all, that they that live should no longer live unto themselves, but unto him who for their sakes died and rose again.

  1. Joh 1:29 On the morrow he seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world!

  1. Heb 2:9 But we behold him who hath been made a little lower than the angels, even Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God he should taste of death for every man.

  1. Joh 4:42 and they said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy speaking: for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.

  1. 1Jn 3:8 he that doeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. To this end was the Son of God manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

  1. 1Jn 4:14 And we have beheld and bear witness that the Father hath sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

  1. Rev 15:4 Who shall not fear, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy; for all the nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy righteous acts have been made manifest.

  1. 1Co 12:3 Wherefore I make known unto you, that no man speaking in the Spirit of God saith, Jesus is anathema; and no man can say, Jesus is Lord, but in the Holy Spirit.

Let's go right into the fire…

Mat 25:46

And these shall go away into eternal (g166) punishment (g2851): but the righteous into eternal (g166) life.

  1. "ETERNAL" G166

https://studybible.info/strongs/G166

  1. LSJ Gloss: lasting for an age

  3. Strong's: perpetual (also used of past time, or past and future as well)

  4. αἰώνιος - (ancient Greek etymology); long-lasting; lasting for an age; lasting for life (of an office or title); perpetual, eternal, everlasting

  4. αἰών: (ancient Greek etymology) period of existence; aeon, eon, epoch, age, generation, eternity, space of time

  1. "PUNISHMENT" G2851

  3. Strong's: properly, to curtail, i.e. (figuratively) to chastise (or reserve for infliction)

In the OT

Lam 3:31-32

31 For the Lord will not cast off for ever. 32 For though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.

So this seems to suggests that the Lord does “casts off” and causes grief.  But its not forever. Maybe as a form of punishment?

Psa 16:10 (Psalm of David)

For thou wilt not leave my soul in Sheol (hell);  Neither wilt thou suffer thy holy one to see corruption.

This verse suggests that the Lord does put some in Sheol unless this verse only applies to Jesus, the holy one. But it is written by David.

Again, sheol or hell as a form of punishment?

Act 2:26-27 (taken from Psalm of David)

26 Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced;  Moreover my flesh also shall dwell in hope: 27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul unto Hades,  Neither wilt thou give thy Holy One to see corruption.

The stain of Adam's sin…

Rom 5:17a

17 For if, by the trespass of the one (Adam), death reigned through the one…

Rom 5:18a

18 So then as through one trespass the judgment came unto all men to condemnation…

The idea that mankind was not given a choice in being stained by the sin of Adam. Adam's wine glass was spilled on mankind and now the tablecloth of humanity is completely red.

But Jesus becomes the second Adam:

Rom 5:17b

17b …much more shall they that receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, even Jesus Christ.

Rom 5:18b

18b…even so through one act of righteousness the free gift came unto all men to justification of life.

So either:

  1. Jesus provides a way of undoing the curse but only to those that accept Jesus and walk his path…everyone who doesn't accept it in this lifetime will be eternally separated and burn in hell forever. Some verses suggest this, some don't.

Referring back to the Adam red wine analogy, now a small clean narrow white streak appears in the middle of the tablecloth continuing forward to the other end, possibly getting bigger as it gets towards the bottom of the table cloth.

  1. Or maybe Jesus, the second Adam actually does the "much more" that is referred to in the verses we just read.

And just like Adam's transgression which affects absolutely everybody, Jesus' act also affects absolutely everybody. So this justification of life really and truly comes to all men. Just like it says in Romans 5.

So if Jesus' work were really "much more", the entire tablecloth would now be white instead of just a white steak down the middle. And then even more in addition.

And like I said last time I would rather over emphasize and over value Jesus' work than to minimize it. Because it seems if Jesus really came for all men, and the doling out of consequences was applied in the same way as Adam's consequence, it would be given to everyone.

Maybe there's more to this…

Bible Study 92

Rom 14:11

For it is written, I live, saith the Lord, that to me every knee shall bow, And every tongue shall confess to: God.

  1. This verse seems to be taken from Is 45….

Is 45:23

23 By myself have I sworn, the word is gone forth from my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, that unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

And we already read that God doesn't force people to submit to him, they only would submit if the Holy Spirit had changed them.

Now read vs22

Is 45:22

Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is none else.

Who does "all the ends of the earth" include? Everyone

This entire chapter sheds a little more light on what we have been discussing….

Isa 45:1

1 Thus saith Jehovah to his anointed, to Cyrus (posses thou the furnace), whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him, and I will loose the loins of kings; to open the doors before him, and the gates shall not be shut:

Who is Cyrus and how is he described elsewhere?

  1. Cyrus reigned over Persia btw 539—530 BC.

  1. He was a pagan king and did not know God.

  1. But it was under his rule that Jews were first allowed to return to Israel after 70 years of captivity.

  1. He believed God charged him with building his house in Jerusalem.

2Ch 36:23

Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath Jehovah, the God of heaven, given me; and he hath charged me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whosoever there is among you of all his people, Jehovah his God be with him, and let him go up.

  1. He brought back all the items that were originally taken by Babylon from the temple in Jerusalem.

  1. He funded the rebuild from the treasuries of Persia.

Show the meaning of the word "Cyrus"

"posses thou the furnace"

Posses-  as belonging to one; own

****This is a huge clue for whom this chapter is referring to. Those that possess or belong to the furnace****

Isa 45:2

I will go before thee, and make the rough places smooth; I will break in pieces the doors (gates) of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron;

Is 45.       Ps 107

Door  H1817.      H1817

Brass H5154.      H5178

Bars   H1280.      H1280

Iron    H1270.      H1280

  1. What doors (gates) of brass? bars of iron? Huh?

This is another ginormus clue and is referenced in Ps 107:16

Psa 107:16

For he hath broken the gates of brass,  And cut the bars of iron in sunder.

  1. Let's read vs10-20 to get context…

Ps 107:10-20

10 Such as sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,  Being bound in affliction and iron

Where are the doors of brass and bars of iron?

11 Because they rebelled against the words of God,  And contemned the counsel of the Most High

Where are the doors of brass and bars of iron?

12 Therefore he brought down their heart with labor;  They fell down, and there was none to help.

Where are the doors of brass and bars of iron?

13 Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble,  And he saved them out of their distresses. 14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,  And brake their bonds in sunder.

Where are the doors of brass and bars of iron?

15 Oh that men would praise Jehovah for his lovingkindness,  And for his wonderful works to the children of men! 16 For he hath broken the gates of brass,  And cut the bars of iron in sunder.

17 Fools because of their transgression,  And because of their iniquities, are afflicted. 18 Their soul abhorreth all manner of food;  And they draw near unto the gates of death.

Where are the doors of brass and bars of iron?

19 Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble,  And he saveth them out of their distresses. 20 He sendeth his word, and healeth them,  And delivereth them from their destructions.

Where are the doors of brass and bars of iron?

Summary:

  1. Vs10 Where there is darkness and the shadow of death

  2. Vs10 Where there is affliction

  3. Vs11 A place full of rebels against the words of God

  8. Vs17 A place where people are full of transgressions

  9. Vs18 A place near the Gates of death

  10. Vs20 A place full of destructions

****Remember what Cyrus means: "possesses the furnace"

Where are the doors of brass and bars of iron? In the furnace. Cyrus is a metaphor for those in the furnace, or hell.

Re-read Is 45:2

I will go before thee, and make the rough places smooth; I will break in pieces the doors of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron;

What does breaking in pieces of the door and the bars suggest? God opens the doors of the furnace/sheol/hell

Is 45:3-6

3 and I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that it is I, Jehovah, who call thee by thy name, even the God of Israel. 4 For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel my chosen, I have called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me. 5 I am Jehovah, and there is none else; besides me there is no God. I will gird thee, though thou hast not known me; 6 that they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none besides me: I am Jehovah, and there is none else

  1. Vs3 "treasures of darkness"?

  2. Vs3 "hidden riches of secret places"

  3. Vs 4-5 "thou hast not known thee me"

  4. Vs5 "besides me there is no God"

  5. Vs6 "there is none besides me"

Is 45:7-8

7 I form the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil. I am Jehovah, that doeth all these things. 8 Distil, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, that it may bring forth salvation, and let it cause righteousness to spring up together; I, Jehovah, have created it.

Verse 7 is another ginormus verse:

  1. We already know that God forms the light

  2. He creates darkness?

  3. We already know he makes peace

  4. He creates evil?

Verse 8

  1. Righteousness is poured down

Is 45:9-

9 Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! a potsherd among the potsherds of the earth! Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands? 10 Woe unto him that saith unto a father, What begettest thou? or to a woman, With what travailest thou?

Summary

  1. Vs9 woe unto him that grapples or complains to his maker!

  1. Vs9 you are a mere piece of broken pottery among pottery of the earth

  1. Vs9 shall the clay say to the potter:

    1. "What do you making"

    2. "you have no hands"

  1. Vs10 woe unto him that saith unto his father "what are you bringing forth?"

***Dad, what are you doing?****

  1. Vs10 woe unto him that says to his mother "what are you travailing with?"

Is 45:11-13

11 Thus saith Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker: Ask me of the things that are to come; concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands, command ye me. 12 I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens; and all their host have I commanded. 13 I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will make straight all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let my exiles go free, not for price nor reward, saith Jehovah of hosts.

Summary

  1. Vs11 This is what the Lord says, who are you to:

    1. “Question me about my children?

  1. Or give me orders about the work of my hands?

  1. Vs12 "I myself made the earth and created humankind upon it."

  1. Vs12 "My own hands stretched out the skies; I command the heavenly armies.”

  1. Vs13 I have raised him (Cyrus) up in righteousness. He will rebuild my city (Jerusalem).

  1. Vs13 he shall let go my captives but not for a price or reward

    1. Those captive of Satan

Is 45:14

14 Thus saith Jehovah, The labor of Egypt, and the merchandise of Ethiopia, and the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall go after thee, in chains they shall come over; and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God.

Summary

  1. Vs14 The acquired property of Egypt Ethiopia and the Sabians shall come over thee.

Isa 43:3

For I am Jehovah thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour; I have given Egypt as thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in thy stead.

Yet in this verse, God seems to get them back. Or He releases them from their prison.

  1. Vs14 Notice that they seem to come over in chains and fall down and worship (Jacob/Israel). Surely God is truly in you, we recognize that now, there is no other God but Him.

  1. So if Cyrus leads out the captives together (along with Egypt, Ethiopia and and Seba) and they come over to Jacob/Israel, we assume that now they are counted as part of spiritual Israel.

Is 45:15-17

15 Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour. 16 They shall be put to shame, yea, confounded, all of them; they shall go into confusion together that are makers of idols. 17 But Israel shall be saved by Jehovah with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be put to shame nor confounded world without end.

Summary

  1. Vs15 oh God of Israel, you are the savior. Yet we knew it not because you hid yourself from us

  1. Vs16 any maker of idols will be humiliated, confused and ashamed

  1. Vs17 Israel (which we are now part of) will be saved with an everlasting salvation. They shall not be ashamed nor confused forevermore.

Is 45:18-19

18 For thus saith Jehovah that created the heavens, the God that formed the earth and made it, that established it and created it not a waste, that formed it to be inhabited: I am Jehovah; and there is none else. 19 I have not spoken in secret, in a place of the land of darkness; I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I, Jehovah, speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.

Summary

  1. Vs18 I created the heavens and the earth and didn't created to be a waste. I am God and there is none else.

  1. Vs19 I have not spoken in secret nor in a land of darkness.

  1. Yet it does say in verse 3 that he gave Cyrus hidden riches of secret places and treasures of darkness

  1. Confusing: My assumption here is that he is talking to Jacob / Israel.

  2. Or maybe he is saying he didn't speak in these places but isn't saying he gave hidden riches of secret places

Is 45:20-25

20 Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that carry the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save. 21 Declare ye, and bring it forth; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath showed this from ancient time? who hath declared it of old? have not I, Jehovah? and there is no God else besides me, a just God and a Saviour; there is none besides me. 22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is none else. 23 By myself have I sworn, the word is gone forth from my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, that unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. 24 Only in Jehovah, it is said of me, is righteousness and strength; even to him shall men come; and all they that were incensed against him shall be put to shame. 25 In Jehovah shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.

Summary

  1. Vs20 now God seems to be speaking to those that have escaped of the nations that have little to no knowledge of him.

  1. Vs21 there is God but me, so draw near that you may know together about me. There is no one else

  1. Vs22 turn to me and be saved. There is no one else

  1. Vs23 I have sworn and the word is gone forth from my mouth that every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess

  1. Vs24 All that were incensed against him shall be put to shame. Why?

Because his love and kindness is shown to these people. As a result they feel ashamed that they ever were angry at him from the get-go

  1. Vs25 All the seed of Israel shall be justified and glorified

#######

Psa 107:1-43

1 O give thanks unto Jehovah; for he is good;  For his lovingkindness endureth for ever. 2 Let the redeemed of Jehovah say so,  Whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the adversary, 3 And gathered out of the lands,  From the east and from the west,  From the north and from the south. 4 They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way;  They found no city of habitation. 5 Hungry and thirsty,  Their soul fainted in them. 6 Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble,  And he delivered them out of their distresses, 7 He led them also by a straight way,  That they might go to a city of habitation. 8 Oh that men would praise Jehovah for his lovingkindness,  And for his wonderful works to the children of men! 9 For he satisfieth the longing soul,  And the hungry soul he filleth with good. 10 Such as sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,  Being bound in affliction and iron, 11 Because they rebelled against the words of God,  And contemned the counsel of the Most High: 12 Therefore he brought down their heart with labor;  They fell down, and there was none to help. 13 Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble,  And he saved them out of their distresses. 14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,  And brake their bonds in sunder. 19 Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble,  And he saveth them out of their distresses. 20 He sendeth his word, and healeth them,  And delivereth them from their destructions. 21 Oh that men would praise Jehovah for his lovingkindness,  And for his wonderful works to the children of men! 22 And let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving,  And declare his works with singing. 23 They that go down to the sea in ships,  That do business in great waters; 24 These see the works of Jehovah,  And his wonders in the deep. 25 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind,  Which lifteth up the waves thereof. 26 They mount up to the heavens, they go down again to the depths:  Their soul melteth away because of trouble. 27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man,  And are at their wits' end. 28 Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble,  And he bringeth them out of their distresses. 29 He maketh the storm a calm,  So that the waves thereof are still. 30 Then are they glad because they are quiet;  So he bringeth them unto their desired haven. 31 Oh that men would praise Jehovah for his lovingkindness,  And for his wonderful works to the children of men! 32 Let them exalt him also in the assembly of the people,  And praise him in the seat of the elders. 33 He turneth rivers into a wilderness,  And watersprings into a thirsty ground; 34 A fruitful land into a salt desert,  For the wickedness of them that dwell therein. 35 He turneth a wilderness into a pool of water,  And a dry land into watersprings. 36 And there he maketh the hungry to dwell,  That they may prepare a city of habitation, 37 And sow fields, and plant vineyards,  And get them fruits of increase. 38 He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly;  And he suffereth not their cattle to decrease. 39 Again, they are diminished and bowed down  Through oppression, trouble, and sorrow. 40 He poureth contempt upon princes,  And causeth them to wander in the waste, where there is no way. 41 Yet setteth he the needy on high from affliction,  And maketh him families like a flock. 42 The upright shall see it, and be glad;  And all iniquity shall stop her mouth. 43 Whoso is wise will give heed to these things;  And they will consider the lovingkindnesses of Jehovah.

We were:

  1. born in sin (Psa. 51:5; Job 14:4)

  2. biased to sin (Rom 7:23)

  3. blinded by sin (2 Cor 4:4)

  4. bound by sin (Acts 26:18)

  5. deceived by the devil (2 Cor 11:14; Rev 20:10)

  6. deceived by our own fallen/corrupted hearts (Jer 17:9)

  7. alienated from the life of God (Eph. 4:18)

  8. and above all, totally unable to save ourselves or to change our own sinful hearts and desires.

Phi 2:9-11

9 Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and gave unto him the name which is above every name; 10 that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things on earth and things under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Part of "much more" seems to now include what from ##verse 10?

Things in heaven

Things under the earth

And I'm assuming this would include all mankind
