Shall All Be Made Alive? -Part 1

 II Timothy 2:15

Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Mat 1:17

So all the generations from Abraham unto David are fourteen generations; and from David unto the carrying away to Babylon fourteen generations; and from the carrying away to Babylon unto the Christ fourteen generations.

Count them

Jesus is 13, Christ is 14.

The 42nd generation is the "body of Christ"

Mar 8:38

For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of man also shall be ashamed of him, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

Act 15:14-18 - may need to read from verse 1

14 Symeon hath rehearsed how first God visited the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. 15 And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, 16 After these things I will return,  And I will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen;  And I will build again the ruins thereof,  And I will set it up: 17 That the residue of men may seek after the Lord,  And all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, 18 Saith the Lord, who maketh these things known from of old.

  1. Vs14 Why does he say Symeon and not Peter in vs7?

  1. Vs14 First God visited the Gentiles? Huh? Why?

    1. To take out a people for his name

  1. So James seems to be speaking about what God was doing in their present day?

  1. Then we can assume that the rest of this will be future or prophecy

  1. Vs15 Amos 9:10-11

  1. Vs16 Then I will return…

  1. Vs16 I will build up the Tabernacle again which is fallen.

  1. Vs16 I will build up the ruins

  1. ***Notice here that James is prophesying that the church is destined to lie in ruins…

  1. Vs16 And I will set it up!

  1. Vs17 The residue (remainder) of man may seek after the Lord

  1. Vs17 and all the gentiles upon whom my name is called.

I don't think he is saying that he will collect only those whom his name is called upon. I think he is saying that his name is called upon all the Gentiles

  1. Repeat the pattern!

    1. God takes people from the Gentiles for his name (Christ?)

  1. Then He returns

  1. Then he rebuilds his Tabernacle which has fallen

  1. He builds upon the ruins and he will set it up

  1. Those remaining may seek after the Lord…All the Gentiles upon whom His name is called!

Two groups appear

  1. Those whom Jesus first chooses of the Gentiles "for His name"

  1. The remainder from all the nations on whom His name is called. That he gets after his second coming.

Who are these that are chosen "for his name" and those "upon whom his name is called"?

Hint: Remember the 42nd generation or the generation from Jesus to Christ. This generation seems to include these two groups. One is chosen before the second coming of Christ and by and large there's a much larger crop after the second coming of Christ.

Acts 15 Could James be referring to this Simeon?

Luke 2:25-35 (Give back story)

25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed unto him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27 And he came in the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, that they might do concerning him after the custom of the law, 28 then he received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29 Now lettest thou thy servant depart, Lord,  According to thy word, in peace; 30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, 31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples; 32 A light for revelation to the Gentiles,  And the glory of thy people Israel. 33 And his father and his mother were marvelling at the things which were spoken concerning him; 34 and Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel; and for a sign which is spoken against; 35 yea and a sword shall pierce through thine own soul; that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed.

  1. This Simeon says Jesus will be a light for revelation to the Gentiles

  1. And for the glory of thy people Israel.

  1. This child is set for the falling and for the rising of many in Israel

    1. So remember the pattern, Jesus takes out a group for his name before his second coming. The church will be in ruins BEFORE his second coming.

  1. When Jesus comes back to the ruins of the church that are left he takes out the many or all for his name.

*Mention the overhead projector analogy with Peter's words,  James's words and Simeon's words

The body of Christ, which includes us…

Phi 3:20-21

20 For our citizenship is in heaven; whence also we wait for a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21 who shall fashion anew the body of our humiliation, that it may be conformed to the body of his glory, according to the working whereby he is able even to subject all things unto himself.

This raised up body of Christ is able to subject all things unto himself…hmmm…

What does this suggest? Not only are we conformed to his body but His body (which we are a part of) is able to subject all things to himself.

What did Jesus say about his mission?

John 12:32

And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself.

Hmmm…

1Co 15:21-22

21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.

  1. Vs21 For since by man came death…Which man? Adam

  1. Vs21 by man came also the resurrection of the dead…Which man? Jesus

  1. Vs22 for as in Adam all die

    1. We all accept this, right?

  1. Vs22 so also in Christ shall all be made alive.

    1. But we aren't used to accepting this.

  1. What do we normally think?

  1. We would normally think that those who will be made alive in Christ are probably a very small number of people.

Let's see this again in a couple of other NT passages:

Rom 5:18-19

18 So then as through one trespass, it is unto all men unto condemnation; even so through one act of righteousness it is unto all men unto justification of life. 19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, thus also through the obedience of the one shall the many be made righteous.

  1. Vs18 One trespass brought condemnation unto all men (Adam)

  1. Vs18 One act of righteousness brings the free gift unto all men to justification of life (Jesus)

  1. Vs19 through one man's disobedience many (or all?) were made sinners

  1. Did Adam's disobedience MAKE US all sinners? Or just some of us?

  1. Vs19 through the obedience of one shall the many (or all?) be made righteous

  1. So if everyone was made a sinner by Adam's sin, is this verse suggesting that everyone is made righteous by Jesus obedience?

  1. This isn't the way we normally see this, is it?

  1. If no one was given a choice to be a sinner, does He leave the decision to choose Him up to us with eternal consequences hanging in the balance?

Let's look at another instance in the New testament of the purpose of Jesus:

Col 1:19-20

19 For it was the good pleasure of the Father that in him should all the fulness dwell; 20 and through him to reconcile all things unto himself, having made peace through the blood of his cross; through him, I say, whether things upon the earth, or things in the heavens.

  1. Vs19 it was Father's good pleasure that all his fullness should dwell in Jesus

  1. Vs20 And the father used Jesus to reconcile ALL THINGS unto himself

  1. RECONCILE - to make peace, establish harmony

  1. ALL - all, any, every, the whole

  1. Vs20 having made peace through the blood of the cross

  1. Vs20 no matter whether the things are on the Earth or in the heavens.

  1. Weird

1Ti 2:3-4

3 This is good and acceptable before God our: Savior; 4 who willeth all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of truth.

1Ti 2:6

who gave himself a ransom for all; the testimony to be borne in its own times;

  1. Jesus testimony will be born in its own time?

  1. Or the testimony of Jesus to be in its own seasons?

  1. The testimony to be rendered in its own times?

1Ti 4:10

For to this end we labor and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of them that believe.

  1. How could Jesus the living God be the Savior of all men, especially them that believe? Do the ones that believe now have some advantage?

1Jn 2:1-2

1 My little children, these things write I unto you that ye may not sin. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2 and he is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.

  1. Notice again in verse 2…"He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world."

  1. What might be this connection between Jesus giving himself not just for "us" but also for the whole world?
